Overview

Welcome to the University of Toronto Students’ Union (U.T.S.U.) Book Exchange Site. With the ever increasing costs of new textbooks, the Book Exchange has been helping students like you to save money by helping you buy and sell used textbooks. This service is wholly owned and operated by the Students’ Union.

The U.T.S.U. Book Exchange allows you to drop off your used books for sale at prices that you set. WE OFFER A SUMMER DROP OFF OPTION AT U.T.S.U, 12 HART HOUSE CIRCLE UNTIL MID-AUGUST. Starting August 25, 2010 - drop your books off directly at our Book Exchange site. As books are entered into the system you will be able to browse the selection of cheap textbooks for sale - the sales period starts on September 1, 2010.

The sales period runs between September 1 and September 22, 2010 at New College, New College Residence at 45 Willcocks Street in the stone lobby. The hours are 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. We have extended hours on September 7, 8, 9 & 13th, 2010 and are open until 7:00 pm.

Costs: There is no cost for you, the student, to sell your books using this system. For each book you submit for sale, you set your own price. The price is then adjusted to include a 15% consignment fee (or $2.00, whichever is greater) and an additional 5% for HST. All fees are paid by the purchaser.

Process for Seller:

Step 1: Set Up an Account On the left hand side menu bar, click on the button Create an Account. When a student account is created, an email message is sent recognizing that an account has been created.

Step 2: Add Books to Your Student Account On the left hand side menu bar, click on the button Add Books or Package of Books.

An example of a single book would be Calculus MAT 135. At the bottom of the page you would have the option of including the solutions manual, CD and other attachments to this book.

An example of a package of books would be a number of novels for a specific English course that are sold as a package for a single price.

When a book is added, an email message will be sent recognizing that a book has been added. This is not a receipt of the book.

Step 3: Drop Off Your Books Bring your books to New College, New College Residence, Stone Lobby at 45 Willcocks Street, during the drop off period between August 25, 2010 and September 8, 2010. Our hours of operation are 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday with sales beginning on September 1, 2010.

The sooner you bring your books, the sooner they will be tagged, shelved and viewable on our website for others to see and purchase.

Once a book has been received by U.T.S.U. staff, another email message will be sent recgonizing that U.T.S.U. is in receipt of your book.

Step 4: Check Your Book Status Login to the book exchange site. Once your account has been set up you will be asked for a Username (which is your email) and Password (which you set independently). If U.T.S.U. staff input your book information, the system generates the password. All your books for sale can be viewed on your dashboard including whether your books have been sold. You are also able to search for books on-line. All purchases are made in person.

Important: It is the responsibility of the users (sellers and purchasers) of the service to inform themselves of the Book Exchange’s complete policies, including specific service locations and schedules, available on this website and elsewhere. Use of this service implies agreement and understanding of the policies. Any questions related to the policies of the Book Exchange should be directed to the management of the U.T.S.U.
