    RE: WELLESLEY-HOSKIN SEPARATED BIKE LANES

    To whom it may concern,

The University of Toronto Students’ Union represents 45,000 undergraduate students at the St. George and Mississauga Campuses. With a massive community of cyclists, the University of Toronto Students’ Union is committed to advocating for improved cyclist safety on University of Toronto St. George campus and its surrounding areas. In light of recent debates around cyclists' safety, it is crucial that cyclists’ safety be addressed by the City of Toronto.

The University of Toronto Students’ Union would like to communicate our support for the Wellesley-Hoskin separated bike lanes. The project will have a positive impact on students who depend on cycling as an affordable form of transit. With the cost of education and public transportation rising, it is imperative that the City of Toronto continue to expand cycling networks with due consideration for safety.

Separated bike lanes are an effective means of addressing safety concerns while promoting cycling in the Downtown Core. With a surge in separated bike lanes in major metropolitan areas across the world, it is our hope that Toronto will move towards adopting pro-cyclist practices in the years to come.
