Ontario Boosts Funding for Campus Mental Health Services
Mental illness is one of the greatest barriers to success at university. It’s also one of the most debilitating. At universities across the province, there is a desperate need for better, more accessible mental health resources. The resources that exist here at the university need to have the trust of students, even in emergencies.
Yesterday, Deb Matthews — the minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development — along with Dr. Eric Hoskins — the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, made an announcement at the University of Toronto that outlined a new initiative by the Ontario Government to boost funding for mental health services and supports. The new plan will provide an increased $6m per year in additional funding over three years to support mental health services at Universities and Colleges across the province.
To find out more about this new initiative, see the Ontario government’s news release here.
The University of Toronto Students’ Union was invited to give an address at the press release, this address can be found here.
