U4Consent: Educating Your Community
Often the first person a survivor discloses their experience of sexual violence to is one that they have a personal relationship with. This could be a friend, significant other or family member. Keeping this in mind, it is important that individuals have a basic understanding of how best to respond to a disclosure appropriately and sensitively. They should know to tell survivors that they are believed, that it is not their fault and that they are safe. Furthermore, they should be aware of the professional resources that survivors can access.
